EASIER EMAIL

Writing Email Messages Can Often Be Downright Dreary, Especially if You Hate to Write. Here Are a Few Tips to Make Things Easier.

By Kevin Nunley

If you find typing email messages slow and no fun, don't feel alone. More than 60 percent of people don't type. Even more don't like to write. Here are some simple ways to quickly get through email chores:

1. Cut the Salutation--Leave off the "Dear" and simply type the recipient's name.

2. Don't Chat--Feel free to skip the chit-chat that many of us put at the beginning of a message. I usually type "Thanks for your note." That isn't necessary.

3. Abbreviate--Email is informal. It's okay to use abbreviations if you're fairly sure your reader understands them.

4. Use Stock Answers--Save answers you use a lot in a file on your computer's desktop. Simply copy and paste them into email messages.

5. Use a Signature File--Instead of typing your close, name, and contact info at the end, use a signature file. Most email programs have a place for you to type your sig file once and have it automatically attached to the end of every email you write.

6. Trim Your Response--Don't feel like you have to respond to chit-chat in other people's notes. They're usually just rying to warm up the conversation.

The above points are especially important if you have several emails you must answer each day. Save time and money by incorporating them into your daily email routine.
