Can a Headline Work for Your Website? Absolutely.
By Kevin Nunley
We all know what a headline is in a newspaper. Many of use have also worked with sales letters and we know they they can have headlines, too.
TV commercials also have headlines, and this is where we start to get a broader understanding of what a great headline can look like.
TV commercials rarely open with a printed headline. Instead, they use an eye-catching visual to get attention and make their opening point.
There is a good lesson in this. A headline is MUCH more effective if it includes a visual that helps explain it.
For example, "Here's how YOU can earn $1,000 this week" works even better if it sits next to a photo of a stack of money. And "You will have more time for yourself and your kids" hits home when you see the headline next to Mom or Dad relaxed and reading a book to the little ones.
Of course, headlines also make a lot of sense for web pages. The same principles that are used all the time in magazine and newspaper ads are now used extensively on web sites. Consider a compelling headline as a way to entice customers to stay at your web page and buy from you. It can be a very effective tool in online marketing.
