EIGHT STAGGERING BLOWS

TO THE HOME BIZ BLUES

As Most Home Business People Will Tell You, Keeping the Enthusiasm High isn't Always Easy. But Never Fear--Help is on the Way.

By Colette Mosley

Working from home can be great. But it can also have its problems. Why? Because it takes discipline to fulfill the everyday tasks of a home-based business. Before you can click your heels together three times, you might develop a bad case of the blahs. No enthusiasm to make those phone calls or send email messages, excuses to not fill the day's orders, etc. Might a regular paying nine-to-five, J-O-B hold the solution? I think not.

Here are eight energizing ways to get that business adrenaline pumping and your motivation soaring. Now you can banish forever those home biz blues.

1. Pleasant Alternatives--To regroup and keep your focus, do something you enjoy. I like a challenging workout. You may like a game of golf, a movie, or spending some time with your pet.

Make the time for the things that make you happy. Enjoyable timeouts will make you feel better and keep you balanced. For some offbeat business humor, check out www.funnybusiness.com

2. Optimistic Others--These are people who care about you as a person. They may be family members, friends or neighbors. The important thing is that they care about you. Take a break and call or email these caring souls. They may know diddly about your business, but their support can be priceless.

3. Positive Peers--This is one of the best ways to stay centered on your business vision. Peers can point out areas where you may be lacking. They can also serve as a sounding board for your ideas. Positive peers can be online (discussion forums, email), members from you chamber of commerce, or other business associates.

This positive peer has a free email business report for you. It lists winning techniques for getting customers. To get your copy, just send me an email to: bizgems@sendfree.com

4. Eye Candy--This is something that really floats your boat. It's an item that you really want. Too bad you can't afford it right now. But you know in a few more weeks or after a few more sales you can get your new treat.

Focusing on your eye candy can keep your wheels of commerce humming. Just keep thinking of the goodies you'll get when you make those sales.

5. Feature Focus--Spotlight the reasons why you started your own home business. Were you tired of spending the majority of your life with people you didn't like at your old job? Did your commuting time to and from work become a drag?

Was your boss a pain in the...toe? Were your kids asking when they would see you again? Did your cat act like he didn't know you? Concentrate on your reasons for starting your home business.

The magazine, HOME OFFICE, at www.homeofficemag.com offers business advice that will keep you on track. The truth is, centering your mind on positives can outweigh any negatives.

6. A Workable Aura--Caring for your aura or personal space is a must. This can mean a variety of things. Some entrepreneurs work fine with the radio playing. For others, a radio, TV, or similar device chokes their creative flow. Is your lighting sufficient? Is the temperature comfortable? Even the little things have an influence on your business performance. A good environment is a must for a productive home office.

7. Don't Stay Home Alone--Working by yourself is good for some, but other entrepreneurs need to stay surrounded by lots of business activity.

One home-based marketer I know has a couple of computers and desks in her home office. She lets other business owners lease this working area. If you find that you're having difficulty keeping your business focus, you might try teaming up with other business owners.

8. Open House--An open house builds excitement and it's a great way to boost your self-esteem. It's also fantastic for enhancing your image among your peers and customers. Get everyone involved. Arrange to have attending businesses make a brief presentation about their establishment. Tell them to bring lots of flyers, brochures and business cards. You can even have video and computer presentations. Preparing and participating in our open house events has always generated leads, great contacts and sales.

You can rely on these eight unique methods to knock out those home biz blues. So why not begin incorporting some of them today? You'll feel good about yourself and you'll stay ahead of the business game.
