DO YOU REALLY WANT TO BE HAPPY?

What's the Secret of Happiness? Maybe Just a Small Change in Your Mindset.

By Kym Robinson

Do you think you need your life circumstances to change before you can be happy?

Most people feel that way. They have long-held ideas in their heads of what they think will make them happy. And they can't be happy unless those things happen. Well, once most people get something they've wanted, they probably won't be satisfied for long. They realize there's still a hole that needs to be filled with happiness, so they must get something bigger and better, and surely that will make them happy. Some people just don't allow themselves to reach contentment.

How about you? Do you notice that you can't stay satisfied, either?

Even when things don't seem great, the bonus is that a change in your mindset is all it takes to feel better and happy. Here are three steps that can help you be happy.

1. Be Grateful--Make sure you're thankful for what you already have...and don't take things for granted. It's a very positive state of mind. Instead of focusing on all that you don't have, focus on all that you DO have. Even focus on and be grateful for the small things. This positive thinking brings happiness.

2. Make Time for Yourself--Take a step back and see the flowers through the trees. You won't be enjoying life much if you're always all over the place. For real contentment, make time for yourself so you can dream, relax, and enjoy the good things life has to offer. Enjoy the simple pleasures of life. Take in and enjoy the smile of a loved one. Do things you enjoy regularly. Reading good books or listening to music you like are good ways to enjoy life's simple pleasures.

3. Enjoy the Journey--Most people are so focused on the end result, that they don't pay attention to the journey of getting there. People focus too much on finally "getting there" and think that will finally make them happy. Don't forget about the journey to get where you are trying to go, because you can gain a lot from your journey, too. Make sure that when you hit the target, when you achieve what you set out to, that you give yourself a pat on the back. The more you enjoy the journey, the more you'll enjoy the destination.

Sometimes happiness is simply something that you choose. Certain situations can make it extremely difficult to feel happy. But a lot of times, people simply let small things bother them so much that they're not allowing themselves to be happy.

Don't make a mountain out of a mole hill. Choose to be happy and embrace it.

It will make your life a lot better.
