CREATE AND HOLD YOUR OWN VISION

Regular Work with Visions and Affirmations Can Make a Huge Difference on the Road to Your Success
By Mike Foley

Over the years, you've no doubt read many articles and books that outline practical steps for starting, maintaining, and improving a business. Others may tell you how to invent and develop a new product.

What's often ignored, however, is the power of your own mind to shape and create your success in the world. This involves having a definite vision of yourself, the business or invention, its place in the world, its ultimate success, etc.

For example, back in 1990, when John Moreland was launching the Dream Merchant as a small subscription-based newsletter, he continued to hold his vision of the Dream Merchant as a full print magazine, the leading publication for inventors in the United States. Both visions became a reality in the mid-1990s.

So how do you hold your own vision of success? By "visualizing" your goals regularly, while also talking to yourself using affirmations maintain a positive focus. Is this approach new or confusing to you? Then read on. Here's how to make it work.

1. Your Vision and Affirmations Must Be Regular--This means you must work with your vision and affirmations constantly. Holding and vision and silently repeating affirmations must become a regular part of your life. If you do them on one day, then continue with them a month later, that's not "regular." Hold to your vision daily, repeating your silent affirmations as part of your everyday life.

2. Shape the Vision--How to do want your life to be? How do you envision yourself? Making more money? Living with more freedom and flexibility? Running with a crowd of successful, happy people? Be specific with your affirmations. For example, you might say to yourself, "I'm a successful inventor" or "I'm a successful business person." Or you might say, "I easily attract money into my life." The repetition of such positive affirmations can make a huge difference in your life. But when you create the affirmation, be specific.

3. Use Present Tense--Notice in the examples above that the affirmation is spoken in present tense. This brings a "here and now" quality to the statement, as if your success is ALREADY happening, as if you ALREADY have what you want. The present tense solidifies your vision and makes it real.

4. Focus on the Positive--By focusing on the positive aspects, you move out of the struggles you may currently be experiencing. When you don't focus on the positive, you tend to reinforce the issues you're trying to change. For example, instead of saying, "I no longer struggle as an inventor," (which focuses on the struggle), you can say, "I am a successful inventor with several money-making products." By focusing on on what you want, rather than what you don't want, the affirmations will be much more powerful.

5. Focus on Feeling--As much as possible, add feelings and emotions to your vision and affirmations. For example, if you have a vision of yourself as the owner of a successful business, focus also on how that feels to you--excited, proud, comfortable, worry-free, etc. By conjuring up the emotions related to your vision, you make it even more real...and it moves closer to becoming your everyday reality.

What's the bottom line in all this?

Visualizations and affirmations work....period.

Although you may be new to this aspect of personal success, I assure you it can make a huge difference in your life. Visualizing your success can help you create it. Affirmations feed your vision even more, and help keep you focused on your goals. All this has worked well for us here at the Dream Merchant. It can work for you, too.

Here's hoping you bring your personal visions into the reality of your life.
