The Editor's Desk... With Mike Foley
Although this is a favorite time of year for many people (myself included), the sadness of autumn can't be denied. After all, now is the time of dying, of leaves losing color and the disappearance of the comforting summer warmth. But we also can't deny that all of this is important and even necessary.
Just as we can't revisit Spring without first traveling through Fall and Winter, very often we can't experience success without first traveling the land of false starts, dashed hopes, and failure. Some even say that failure is an important road map for success, offering wisdom about life, about what doesn't work and what should be avoided in the future.
In that sense, our personal dark days may actually serve us in ways we hadn't considered. If you're going through a difficult time with new product development or a business startup, take heart and find the possible messages in your experience. Have you really failed at something or have you simply made new discoveries that will help guide you toward your goal in a more focused way? Maybe your failure has its own beauty, the way dying leaves can take your breath away. And maybe your failure is simply a new way to learn.
Learn all you can and wait for new ideas and opportunities to present themselves. Just as Winter never fails to turn into Spring, success never fails those who continue to learn and persevere.
Best of luck with your great ideas.
