The Editor's Desk....

GOOD-BYE, JOE!

Back in the early '90s, when the Dream Merchant was struggling to get off the ground, we were fortunate to have the help of many dynamic business people and writers. Their regular contributions to these pages brought valuable information and inspiration to our readers.

One of the most important of the early contributors was Joe Cossman, who not only wrote a regular column for several years, but also remained available as a consultant for many of our projects. Consequently, we often worked with Joe at the National Innovation Workshops and often covered his own business seminars, held in Palm Springs and Los Angeles.

Few individuals have had such a profound impact on American entrepreneurs and few could inspire people the way Joe Cossman could. We were greatly saddened to hear of Joe's passing early this year. To learn more about this remarkable man, please read our tribute article in this issue's feature section. We've also included a reprint of one of Joe's early Dream Merchant articles, with advice that continues to be relevant in the 21st century.

In addition, you many want to check out some of the other fine features this time around--Jim Riordan's great discussion of new product potential, Gary Christensen's marketing advice, Bonnie Drew's opportunity column for young people and Bob Leduc's steps on how to stay ahead of the competition.

If you enjoy these pages (or any of our fine back issues), much of the credit goes to Joe Cossman, who continues to inspire us as we enter our 14th year. We dedicate this issue to the memory of Joe Cossman and all those who continue to seek the American entrepreneurial dream. Good-bye, Joe.
