ACTIVE 2000
THE EDITOR'S DESK....
With Mike Foley
The new year has arrived and thankfully, Y2K problems remain minimal. That's a great relief to many people, who prepared for the millennium by courting fear and expecting the worst. I'm not saying that was wrong. I'm only hoping that the issue can now be buried and put comfortably behind us.
That seems to be what many media campaigns are currently doing. In fact, since January 1, the year 2000 has become a milestone year, a special time to gear up and make changes. Television and radio commercials tout this year as the perfect time to stop smoking, quit drinking, cut back on junk food and lose weight. While all these are certainly worthwhile goals, we at the Dream Merchant feel that a slightly different focus is in order.
Instead of making 2000 a "quitting" or "stopping" year, why not focus on "beginnings" or even "recommitments?" Start that new business you've been considering. Introduce a new product into your current line. Take the next step with your invention idea and begin building a workable prototype. Such an active and creative approach to the new year will not only keep you (and those around you) positive and upbeat, it can also reap long-term results that can change your life.
So if you need to quit smoking or lose weight, by all means, do so. You have our deepest respect. But in addition, consider expanding your life to include a more active role in the creation of your dreams.
May they all come true.
