The Editor's Desk... with Mike Foley
INVENTION KNOWS NO COLOR In February, when the nation focuses on Black history and the advances of the civil rights movement in this country, we often forget the contributions made by African American inventors. Many of these courageous and innovative inventors have advanced technology (and our everyday lifestyles) in unprecedented and profound ways. (For a more focused discussion of this, please see this month's feature story.)
But it's also good to remember that invention and innovation in this country belongs to everyone. We've seen significant innovation from African American inventors, but also Whites, Asians, Hispanics and Native Americans. Truly, invention knows no color. The spark of an idea, the passion for progress, is alive in every human being and can blossom at any time, making all our lives better.
That's the very spirit we honor at The Dream Merchant. We're all in this life game together. We grow and improve our planet, not by creating racial and economic boundaries, but by breaking them down. By doing so, we grow together, learning and assisting each other. And in that way, innovation emerges from both the individual and the society that honors him/her.
Together we learn. Together we grow and prosper.
Best of luck with your great ideas.
