HERE'S TO THE KIDS

Since it's inception, the Dream Merchant has always maintained a focus on youth, encouraging young people to think creatively in developing new products, marketing them, and starting viable business ventures. To that end, we've continued our regular column, Kids Kreative Korner, which offers children news ways to think about money and business.

In this issue, for example, Bonnie Drew helps parents teach kids about responsibility with money to start them on a path of saving, sharing and investment. Interested parents and kids should also take a look at Drew's popular book, Fast Cash for Kids, which is loaded with tips for the young entrepreneur. Creative young people can also find information in this issue about the annual Craftsman/NSTA Young Inventors Contest, a great opportunity for young people to test their invention skills and score a savings bond in the process.

For our regular adult readers, we're offering our usual variety of tips on invention, marketing, and small business. Be sure to check out Ken Tarlow's ongoing series on creating a business plan, as well as Bob Leduc's always-helpful marketing information.

Not surprisingly, our advice for adult inventors would be the same suggestions we give the kids. Follow your passion. Create a product that excites you, one that can solve everyday problems and improve our daily lives. Let your excitement build until it fosters excitement in others. And keep it up--don't allow yourself to become mired in one idea, one product. Consider many ideas and possible opportunities. Make your mark in the work with enthusiasm and a smile.

Best of luck with your great ideas.
