MOVE OUT OF THE TUNNEL

Back when I was a kid growing up in Long Beach, California, we'd spend summer days at the beach. For a quarter, we could ride the bus down to Cherry Street, then walk through a long tunnel beneath Ocean Avenue to the beach.

Although the tunnel was only about 100 feet from the sand, the walk always seemed too long, too confining, as if the beach wasn't actually getting any closer. And the smell of salt air only intensified our longing. But eventually, we would emerge from the tunnel, our bare feel hitting the warm sand, and our day of fun at the beach would begin.

So why am I I even sharing this with you? Am I just engaging in some pointless nostalgia?

Not at all.

My point is this--at no time in that tunnel did we stop and moan that we weren't at the beach yet. We just kept walking with the full knowledge that we would indeed find the sunlight again and have a great time in the water.

And that's exactly the attitude you need as an aspiring inventor or entrepreneur. You may feel as if your in a tunnel, a darkness that stretches out before you and seems endless. You may even feel that you'll never get beyond this point. But that feeling and those thoughts are the very things that can keep you stuck there.

Instead, take the attitude that you KNOW you'll reach the goal, you KNOW you'll get out of your personal "tunnel." That knowing then becomes your vision, the goal you've set for yourself--the one you'll eventually reach. Attitude and visualization are an important part of your success. (To read even more about this, check out this issue's feature on Vision.)

Don't allow yourself or your dreams to get stuck in a tunnel. KNOW that you'll get to the end of it, that success will be yours. Remaining firm in that attitude is one of the best ways to stay focused on your dreams and goals.

We wish you the very best with your great ideas.
