EMBRACING OUR 20TH

This April is a special one for all of us here at the Dream Merchant. In marking our 20th Anniversary, we are often overwhelmed by how far we've come, how much we've grown, how honored we feel to have helped America's inventors, small business owners, and other creative individuals. If you've been a regular reading of our publication, both in print and online, you no doubt recall how often we encourage readers to follow their dreams.

Well...Dream Merchant Magazine has been our dream. In April, 1990, Publisher/Inventor John Moreland dreamed of helping people navigate the invention process, the world of patents and trademarks, and the often confusing path of marketing and promoting new products.

The result was The Dream Merchant, a small monthly newsletter that marked the beginning of our journey.

Along the way, the Dream Merchant grew into a full-sized commercial magazine, in print and in its present form as an online publication. Over the years, we've been please to participate in the L.A.-area Invention Convention and the National Innovation Workshops hosted by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. We've also been involved with Billie Connor and U.S. Patent Depository Library System. In addition it was an honor to work with Don Kelly at the Patent/Trademark office and Fred Hart at the U.S. Department of Energy.

And our involvement didn't stop there. Our publisher, John Moreland was keynote speaker at Auburn University's business conference. In addition, Moreland and Editor Mike Foley have taught numerous seminars on inventing, magazine publication, new product marketing, media promotion and business writing.

Even better, we've had the distinct pleasure to meet and work with many of America's premiere inventors and business people--E. Joseph Cossman, Jerry Smith, Suzanne Locklear, Pal Asija, Gary Dahl, Jacob Fraden, Bob Lougher, David Pressman, Ken Tarlow and James F. Riordan.

Some, like Riordan, Tarlow, Kevin Nunley, Jeffrey Dobkin and Bonnie Drew have written regularly for the Dream Merchant over the past few years. We thank you all for sharing your expertise with our readers.

We also want to thank Linda Black and Karen Nielsen for all the office and Internet help over the years. You two are the BEST. And we also want to mention the late Tom Lowry, whose regular visits to our office consistently brightened our days with humor and inspiration.

In this anniversary issue, we are featuring Karen Schachter's wonderful article about following your dreams--so appropriate for our ongoing commitment to you and your personal goals. Please take a few minutes to read and enjoy what Karen has to say. You won't be sorry.

And so, as we move forward into the second decade of this century, we invite all of you to join us, regardless of gender, religion, ethnicity or political affiliation. We all have dreams. Let's focus there and make the world a better place.

Best of luck with your great ideas.
