The Editor's Desk....
CELEBRATING OUR 12TH YEAR Back in 1990, I was a struggling freelance writer who had an incredible stroke of luck. John Moreland, an inventor and entrepreneur, asked if I might be interested in contributing to his newsletter project, The Dream Merchant. Although I had little experience with inventing myself, John took a chance on my writing/editing skills and I was soon captivated by the idea of helping inventors and small business people reach their goals. I've always been grateful for that phone call and for John's faith in me.
With this issue, The Dream Merchant celebrates its 12th anniversary--12 years of helping creative people bring new products and services to the marketplace. During that time, I've watched the original, small newsletter grow to a full-size magazine and become America's leading publication for inventors. And with the growth of the Internet, I have overseen the magazine's transition to a full-time online publication, offering a vast amount of information and guidance to enterprising individuals.
Those accomplishments are, of course, impressive. But during my 12 years here, two things continue to impress me even more deeply. The first is the tireless drive of Dream Merchant founder/publisher John Moreland, whose unrelenting optimism has infused and shaped every Dream Merchant issue since the publication's birth.
From John, I've learned that there's no such thing as "failure," that problems are mere "setbacks," and that roadblocks to success are simply opportunities that can lead to an even sweeter victory. John's philosophy of life influences me daily and it's a gift I continue to cherish.
I've also been extremely impressed with the readers of this publication, who have a collective vision of how our lives can be changed, improved, and shaped in positive ways. Yes--that means YOU.
From You, I've learned that all change, all success begins with imagination and courage. In a world where the status quo is often regarded as the safest road, readers like You dare to dream that things can change, that life can be far better, far happier. You have been the backbone of The Dream Merchant for 12 years and continue to inspire our staff to keep publishing and sharing information.
We've had a great time here at The Dream Merchant and I wouldn't change a thing. Thanks to each and every one of you. Thanks to all the successful people who have allowed us to share their stories or have contributed wonderful articles to the magazine. And thanks again to John Moreland for making that call 12 years ago. I'm glad he did.
Best of luck with your great ideas.
