DO YOUR HOMEWORK
Every year, people new to the world of invention lose thousands of dollars to unscrupulous "invention scam" companies. Many are victims of advertising and media hype, while others fall into such traps simply because they don't know what else to do. But what's the common denominator among these victim/inventors? The answer is simple.Fear.
That's right. Many inventors are so afraid they'll lose the race or be "ripped off," that they run for help to the first source they hear of. Quite often, these are the very people who will take the inventor's money and offer nothing in return. You see, many inventors think they can't be successful without giving all power and control to others. Don't get me wrong--the invention world contains many possible bumps and pitfalls. But every year, new inventors navigate these waters successfully.
How? Simply by doing their homework and gathering the necessary information. This normally involves contact with a number of sources, including web sites, the public or university library, the patent-depository library, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and inventor organizations (from worldwide organizations to local clubs). Such sources offer inventors the latest information on patents, trademarks, copyrights, small business, prototyping, marketing and other available tools to help you succeed. You can even find information on the "scams" and the firms you should avoid.
With such tools at your disposal, you'll soon be able to begin the inventor's journey and determine which steps you can navigate alone and which will require help. And you'll be able to find help that's both honest and reasonable.
As one of the inventor's primary sources of information, Dream Merchant will continue offering current and valuable information to our readers. We hope you'll use our "on-line" publication and other sources on your own journey. Do your homework, conquer your fears , and take your great ideas to the marketplace.
May success be yours,
