Summer Isn't the Only Time When Kids Can Make Some Extra Money. The Current Season Offers Many Possibilities, as Well.By Bonnie Drew
Money-making opportunities exist in all seasons and can be discovered by young entrepreneurs everywhere. After all, money doesn't grow on trees. Or does it?
Several years ago, no one could convince young Robby Drew there was no such thing as a money tree. No sir!
"I had one right in my front yard," said Robby.
About this time of year, when the leaves fall and the trees are nearly bare, Robby could look up into the large oak in front of his house and see money. It's green and people called it mistletoe.
Robby and his friends would climb the tree and pull down large bunches of mistletoe. They would then sell sprigs of mistletoe for $.25 to $.50 in front of the busiest store they could find.
"You want to buy some mistletoe?" they would ask as people passed by.
If a shopper looked unhappy or tired, they would say, "Here, have some mistletoe. Happy Holidays." That usually brought a smile and sometimes, a generous tip.
Everyone enjoyed seeing the boys spreading holiday cheer. Within a few hours, they would sell their entire supply and have $30-$40 to split between them.
Money doesn't grow on trees? Don't believe it!
