HELLO, CUSTOMERS!

How Can You Get People in Your Area to Notice You and Your Business? Why Not Have a Grand Opening?

By Bonnie Drew

Have you ever thought about having a grand opening for your business? A grand opening is any event that announces the official beginning of a business. Even if you don't have a retail storefront, you can still celebrate a grand opening.

A grand opening can be a party, an open house, a ceremony, or simply going out for pizza with friends. The purpose is to tell as many customers as possible that you are open for business.

Here's how to stage a really GRAND opening:

1. Party--If your business is operated from home, invite your friends and neighbors to a grand opening party. Serve refreshments and give free demonstrations of your product or service. Give away free samples, business cards, and flyers.

2. Letter--Send out special letters to friends, relatives, and neighbors announcing the opening of your business. Include coupons for discounts on introductory specials or a free calendar or pen imprinted with your business name.

3. Ceremony--Get your friends to help stage an official ribbon-cutting ceremony for your business. Have two people stretch a ribbon across your front door or business location. Say some official words and take pictures of friends helping you cut the ribbon.

Whatever you do to celebrate your grand opening, make it big news. Send your pictures and story to the local newspapers. That will also help spread the word about your business.
