START A POOL MAINTENANCE SERVICE
Once You've Learned the Pool Maintenance Chores, You Have a Good Avenue for Extra Spending Money.
By Bonnie Drew

If you have a pool and have learned to do the maintenance chores, you have a ready-made money-making skill. Two or three regular customers will give you spending money all summer.

Here's how to get started:

1. Learn the Job--If you don't own a pool, learn to do pool maintenance by working with a friend who does.

2. Use Flyers--Get customers by giving out flyers, asking people who have pools, or putting small ads in the newspaper.

3. Visit--Before accepting a job, visit the home to see the pool, get instructions, and discuss how you will be paid.

4. Create a Schedule--Your goal should be to get a list of regular customers. Then keep a schedule and do each job at the same time each week.

5. Provide Discounts--Offer customers a price break if they will sign a contract for the whole summer season.

6. Expand the Business--Be dependable, and your happy customers will tell others about you.

TIPS FOR POOL CLEANING

* Test the water.

* Add chemicals.

* Vacuum the pool.

* Use a deep net to clean floating trash.

* Use a skimmer net to clean the top of the water.

* Check and clean the filter. Then backwash.

* Brush the floor and sides of the pool.

* Sweep and hose off decks and surrounding pool areas.

Almost any business that sells pool supplies has books and pamphlets on pool cleaning and maintenance. If you have any problems with a pool, these people are excellent resources.
