TEN COMMON MISTAKES THAT COST YOU UNNECESSARY MONEY

Not Making Any Money? Maybe You're Actually Wasting Money in Day-to-Day Business Operations.

By Paula Demers

First of all, let's reinforce that running a home-based business costs money. There are no two ways about that. That holds true with any business. The money you spend running your business should be to build it up...not tear it down. People waste a lot of money needlessly in this industry. Then, they wonder why they can't make a profit.

Let's take a look at why you may be wasting money:

1. Wrong Belief--You may believe some business is going to pay you to work at home. This is how many people come into this industry. They answer an ad that states, HOME WORKERS WANTED. WE WILL PAY YOU TO MAIL LETTERS FROM YOUR HOME."

The truth about what an ad like this means is someone will pay you commission to sell their books or products. All the expense falls on you for advertising and mailings. There is nothing wrong with selling others' products and services...if you understand this.

2. Refusal to Learn--Once someone answers one of these ads, they read in the information that they're in business for themselves. Since they automatically get put on mailing lists, they will receive all kinds of valuable information free in magazines and tabloids such as you're reading now. But they don't bother to read them.

3. No Plan--In order to run your own business, you have to have some kind of plan about what you are going to do and how you will do it.

4. Relying on Others--Many people expect others to make them money. They answer circulars and ads that say, WE DO ALL THE WORK. YOU JUST SIT BACK AND COLLECT THE MONEY. I've got news for you--no one will do all the work while you collect the money. It will cost you something--placing ads, doing mailings, etc.

5. Blaming Others--No one forced you to send them your money. If you buy into "get rich quick" schemes or "illegal pyramid scams" that get shut down by the post office, it's no one's fault but your own. Don't spend time blaming others.

6. No Research--Everyone in this business receives promotions in the mail daily. Most folks don't bother to read thoroughly and study what it's all about. Nor do they think about what they would have to do in order to make money from it. Also, they don't call the company with any questions they may have.

7. Small Wastes--This is probably the most common mistake I see. All expenses are on us, as business owners. We need to make the most of what we have. Check out print and mail companies--don't place the same ads everyone else is. Have your mailings look professional. Don't waste postage. The list is endless...

8. Preferring the Lies--I really believe this has to be a conscious effort for many folks. People want to believe the lies. But if we all could be millionaires by mailing out a few letters, none of us would be writing these articles.

9. Joining Everything--This is a common mistake that many new people who come into the industry make. It's new and exciting to see all the ways "they can make money." The thought is, the more they're involved with, the more money they can make. But everything you are involved with needs to be promoted. The reality is, the more you're involved with...the more it will cost you.

10. Just Plain Lazy--Many people buy into opportunities, then do nothing with them. It takes work to make money, no matter what you do. Lazy people will never make money in this business.

Most of this is common sense. You CAN make a lot of money in this business...if you go about it the correct way.
