WHAT IS O.P.B.?
When Creating Your Marketing Approach, It's Important to Focus on Customer Benefits.
In Oregon, O.P.B. stands for our "people supported" cable network, Oregon Public Broadcasting. But in mailorder, O.P.B. stands for "Other People's Benefit."
Whenever I'm designing a new ad, I ask myself, "How do I stress other people's benefit?" When I come up with a new product, my main concern is to try to put Other People's Benefit right up front.
Generally speaking, my closest neighbors don't really care about what will benefit ME. They're usually most often concerned with themselves and how something will benefit THEM.
So to get THEIR attention, to make an impression on them and to obtain their interest, I ALSO need to focus that way, by clearly understanding their needs and outlining WHAT WILL BENEFIT THEM.
Example: I want to get my new flyer into the hands of new people, but they don't care about my flyer! They don't even want to look at my flyer! So what do I do?
I need to involve THEM in the benefits of reading my flyers. I need to show others how THEY might become wealthier, by responding to my new flyer. In that way, the message is more personal to them.
Always try to figure out how YOUR program, or how YOUR ad can emphasize Other People's Benefit.
