Quite Often, That Question Can be Twisted by Angry Business Owners. But By Really Looking at the Answer, You Can Actually Improve Your Business...and Your Life.
By Gary Christensen
A sales lady had just finished talking with one of her customers and apparently there was a little dissatisfaction expressed by the customer on the other end of the line. The sales lady had been nearly shouting into the phone at that customer. After hanging up, she turned to an associate and asked, "What do they expect, anyway?"
Good question.
I was standing nearby and happened to overhear some of the things she said about that customer after hanging up. It made me wonder what a sales person might say about ME after they finished talking with me on the phone.
Do you wonder what some people say about YOU after they hang up the phone? Would YOU do business with them again if you found out what they said about you behind your back?
Probably not, but her question is valid and should be answered. What DO customers expect, anyway? Let's take a look.
1. Customers expect to be treated with friendliness and respect.2. They expect their questions or problems to be resolved quickly.
3. They expect businesses to honor all guarantees.
4. They expect ordering to be easy and simple to do.
5. They expect the prices quoted to be the very lowest possible.
6. They expect more choices--size, color, shape, etc. This usually means more sales.
7. Customers do NOT want to be pressured into buying.
8. Customers expect all the benefits of purchasing to be fully explained.
The above list is far from complete, but it will give you some things to think about. These are some of the things I expect sales people to do when I'm a customer. What do YOU expect? Can you give those things to your own clients and customers? I hope so.
