GETTING FREE HELP FOR YOUR HOME-BASED BUSINESS
Arming Yourself With Information is One of the First Important Steps in Starting Your New Business.

By Gregory H. Bey

Free help for your business? That's right, however I'm not talking about getting free money for your business. But don't stop reading because I'm going to talk about something that is perhaps more valuable.

What I'm talking about is getting free information to help you build your business. Obtaining good solid business-building advice could be worth more than getting free money. Here's why: If you were able to obtain $10,000 in free funds to help you start your small home-based business, what good would the money be unless you have previous business experience?

That's the case with the great majority of people who attempt to start some kind of home business. The new would-be entrepreneur struggles to save start up money and many end up losing every penny that they had to invest in the new enterprise. Why? Because they don't take the time to seek out the information that would teach them the basic principles of operating and building a successful business. It's that simple. You must learn before you can earn. This calls for doing some serious research on every aspect of your business. Just because you have the money to invest doesn't automatically guarantee success.

Hundreds of thousands of would-be entrepreneurs have learned this lesson the hard way. If you want to avoid finding yourself in that same situation, take advantage of the many sources of free business-building information that are available to you. Let's examine some of these sources and see how you can use them to your advantage:

RESEARCH

The obvious place to start is the main library in your city or town. Believe it or not, the library is a free information source that many people simply overlook. Why is it that so many people fail to take advantage of the wealth of information provided by public libraries? Many people feel that when they finish their high school or college education, there is no reason for them to set foot in any library. Others feel that doing a little research is just too time consuming and they don't want to deal with it.

If you're serious about building your own business, you'll get into the habit of visiting your library on a regular basis.

JOIN AN ASSOCIATION

Another good way to obtain free information to help build your business is to join an association. This way you can network with other like-minded people who may be able to provide you with information that could otherwise cost you a lot of money to obtain. I've been a member of THE INNER CIRCLE MAIL ORDER ASSOCIATION for several years. This has been an ongoing source of free information that has been very valuable in helping me build my business. You should keep in mind, especially when you're working alone, that it's always good to have others to consult with.

THE INTERNET

The Internet is not just a place to market your products and services. In fact, if you don't know what you're doing, you can lose your shirt trying to market on the Internet. On the other hand, the Internet is a fantastic information-generating tool, and much of this information is absolutely free. The U.S. government provides a bonanza of business-building information through the Small Business Administration web site and www.business.gov and that information won't cost you a dime.

EZINES

There are probably thousands of ezines on the Internet that provide information and advice on home-based businesses. This is another source of free information that you can take advantage of. Visit the ezine sites and read the ones that apply to your business. In addition, you'll find many free newsletters that are targeted to new business entrepreneurs.

CONTACT THE EXPERTS

Here's a way you can gain free information from the people who have written books, published newsletters and written articles on business areas of interest. Write, call or email them. You may be surprised to find out how many of these people would be glad to offer you a little free advice. Never pass up an opportunity to get free advice to help you build your business. You'll see that it will pay off for you in the long run.
