YOUR SKILLS CAN PAY

Using Skills You Already Have Could Make You Big Money.

By Gregory H. Bey

Recently, I received a phone call from a person seeking advice on the mail order business. He told me that he had tried several mail order and network marketing plans, but he had never been able to make any money.

We talked for a while and in the course of our conversation, he mentioned that he did some kind of home remodeling work. He said that in the winter, things were rather slow for his regular business and so during those months, he tried to work some mail order plans. We talked a while longer about how he might improve on his efforts to build his mail order business and then ended our conversation.

It didn't hit me until after I had hung up the phone. Why couldn't this person take what he had learned in mail order and apply it to his home remodeling skills? People do it all the time. Why couldn't he?

I sent him a letter along with the information that he requested from me. I suggested that he might think about creating a home-remodeling information product. There is a huge market for do-it-yourself home remodeling information, so I suggested that he produce a videotape showing people how to perform his particular skill. Give them the short cuts, inside information and trade secrets on how to do it quickly, easily and inexpensively.

All he had to do was show people the benefits and advantages of buying his do-it-yourself videotape. I also suggested that he might do a test using a two-minute radio or television commercial to advertise his video. I told him that he could create some back end products by producing other videos on other areas of home remodeling that people could easily do themselves. Since he was already in the business, he could talk to others who had the skills in a particular area of home remodeling. This way he could crate and have complete control over his own line of information products on a lucrative, booming, do-it-yourself industry.

One of the mistakes that many new home-business people make is overlooking the skills and know-how that they already have. If you're guilty of overlooking the very valuable skills and work experience that you already have, take some time to consider what you can do with the knowledge that you have gained in your life, you may find that you are sitting on a gold mine.

MAKE MONEY USING THE SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE OF OTHER PEOPLE

You don't have to have knowledge of a particular business in order to create a good, informative information product. The do-it-yourself trend is continuing to grow. All you have to do is use your imagination, do a little research, invest in a video camera and the prospects for creating do-it-yourself videos is almost endless. Let me just quickly throw out some ideas that you could consider.

For instance, there is the business of roofing, siding, cement work, dry-wall installation, carpeting installation, carpet cleaning, window washing, car washing by hand, making bread, organic gardening, tree trimming, pool installation, car detailing, making incense, leather craft...and the list goes on.

If you want to create a do-it-yourself video on any given subject, all you have to do is seek out the people who already have the skills and make arrangements to videotape them while they demonstrate and talk about how they do what they do.

Of course you will have to work out the financial arrangements with these people. The best way would be to offer a one-time payment, however, in some cases you might want to offer a percentage of the sales of your do-it-yourself video.

PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER

Putting this product together should be relatively simple and inexpensive, however there is an investment and work involved. The cost will depend on the subject matter that you choose, the amount and quality of the information that will go into your product and what it will cost you to complete and bring your product to the marketplace.

The important thing to consider in choosing your do-it-yourself subject is producing information on something that people can do themselves and also make some extra money, if they choose to do so. As I have said before, there is a huge market for do-it-yourself information. Don't forget about the skills and the work experience that you already have. They could be the keys to building your own successful selling business.
